Since university rankings have become increasingly important worldwide, CRASP – although it is not institutionally involved in any body or a project in this area – monitors current situation and developments.

In Poland the “pioneers” of classifications, not surprisingly, were media (WPROST magazine, in 1993). Nevertheless, the first professional ranking of Polish HEIs was published 7 years later by the educational monthly Perspektywy. Since that time the ranking has been developed and turned into league table, consisting of four specialized rankings. National daily Rzeczpospolita has become a co-publisher.

Currently, Polish media and NGOs publish different rankings and classifications (annually or occasionally). These are the following:

• HEIs ranking – Rzeczpospolita and Perspektywy
• Wprost (17 editions since 1993)
• Newsweek Poland (6 editions since 2002)
• National daily Gazeta Wyborcza (report on HEIs in 2010)
• A study Employers friendly university (2nd edition)
